Klip's holistic designs: floating wall shelves
Our floating wall solutions reflect a unique holistic philosophy, capturing the idea that by immersing ourselves in natural landscapes, we can uncover the hidden desires of our Soul. Acting upon these desires can bring about a harmonious alignment between mind, heart, spirit, and body. To embody this idea in design, our solutions take on organic shapes, mirroring the flowing forms of natural landscapes. These designs are available in colors inspired by the flora that thrives within these landscapes, visually symbolizing the harmonious balance of elements—Water, Fire, Air, and Earth—that gives rise to each unique form, or “Soul,” within nature. Together, these elements of shape and color convey the philosophy that we can connect with the deeper desires of our Soul through nature’s landscapes.
The organs
Our designs carry an additional layer of symbolism through shapes that resemble seven key organs within the body: the heart, kidneys, liver, stomach, lungs, brain, and intestines. The choice of these seven shapes aligns with the symbolic meaning of “7” as a number of completeness. Each of these organs is essential to life itself, enabling us to exist and physically immerse ourselves in natural landscapes. In addition, our physical existence, represented through these organs, allows us to perceive nature with our senses, experience thoughts and emotions, and undergo energy and physiological reactions. In this way, our designs convey that our organs allow us to exist and therefore to experience our hidden desires in nature. The design thus represents the idea of fulfillment of our more aspirational needs through nature.
Additionally, the choice to shape these shelves after essential organs communicates a more tangible relationship to our basic needs. Research has shown that certain foods, found in nature, are especially beneficial for specific organs and even resemble the shape of those organs. Each of our design shapes not only represents an organ but also symbolizes a corresponding natural food:
- Heart – tomato
- Kidney – bean
- Liver – garlic clove
- Stomach – ginger
- Lungs – broccoli
- Brain – walnut
- Intestines – sweet potato
Each shape also conveys movement, evoking the rhythm and flow of physical exercise, resembling waves of energy with distinct wavelengths and amplitudes.
The first concept conveys the idea that these foods benefit our organs. This in turn positively influence our mind, heart, spirit, and body, which our organs allow us to experience. It illustrates that food enables the fulfillment of our more fundamental needs. Additionally, movement engages us in activity that directly supports our organs, creating positive effects on our mind, heart, spirit, and body, and further fulfilling our fundamental needs. The fact that foods arise from natural landscapes and movement can take place in this environment as well extends the concept that landscapes evoke hidden desires within us as we immerse ourselves in nature. It conveys the idea that landscapes sustain us on two levels: by inspiring desires that fulfill our higher, aspirational needs and by providing the foods and an environment for movement that meet our basic needs. Thus, the landscape-inspired shapes of our shelves do not only signify aspirational fulfillment; they also embody the idea that, once we connect with our aspirational needs through desires, we’re inspired to care for our physical bodies, which supports our journey toward realizing our true self. In this way, our aspirational needs fuel a deeper commitment to fulfilling our fundamental needs for nourishment and movement, creating a self-sustaining loop.
The names of the shelves and its symbolism
As explained, each organ is essential to our existence, enabling us to experience thoughts, emotions, energy, and physiological responses—our mind, heart, spirit, and body. Natural landscapes exude harmony through the colors of plants, trees, and flowers, awakening our hidden desires. When acted upon, these desires bring us into a state of harmony. Therefore, there is a connection between our organs and not only our mind, heart, spirit, and body but also our experience of harmony among them.
This idea is communicated by naming each shelf after a trait inspired by the organ’s function, linking the vital role of each organ to what the harmonious balance between mind, heart, spirit, and body encompasses. In a way, these roles are virtues of a harmonious balance. Since connecting with nature evokes hidden desires that, when fulfilled, guide us into this state of balance, these virtues can also be seen as characteristics of the desires themselves—qualities inherent in the aspirations that nature inspires within us. The virtues are:
- Love (Heart): Reflects the capacity for emotional connection, fostering empathy, compassion, and humanity in every pursuit.
- Wisdom (Brain): Guides self-awareness and thoughtful reflection, ensuring clarity and mindfulness in all aspirations.
- Vitality (Lungs): Infuses energy and enthusiasm, empowering the spirit to engage deeply and meaningfully with every endeavor.
- Courage (Liver): Inspires strength to face challenges and embrace risks, revealing resilience and determination within every aspiration.
- Strength (Stomach): Provides grounding and stability, enabling persistence and endurance in fulfilling any goal.
- Balance (Kidneys): Maintains harmony between emotions, mind, and body, fostering equilibrium in all pursuits.
- Growth (Intestines): Encourages evolution and expansion, allowing desires to lead to personal and collective progress.
Translation of the concept into configuration mode, material, and texture
The concept of landscapes allowing us to bring hidden desires of our Soul into awareness, and when we act upon it, will allow us to experience harmonious balance between mind, heart, spirit and body, is further expressed in the design by configuration mode, material and texture.
- Configuration: With invisible brackets, the shelves appear to float on the wall, mirroring how landscapes reveal the Soul’s hidden desires by uplifting them into awareness.
- Material: Constructed from lightweight yet durable aluminum, the designs convey the Soul’s resilience and delicacy. Aluminum’s strength and minimalistic aesthetic symbolize the Soul’s endurance and the continuity of its essence, even as it may become fragmented or obscured through life’s challenges.
- Texture: The fine-grained coating reflects the Soul’s potential to reveal many unique desires over time. Each desire, once expressed, brings us closer to realizing our full potential.
By embodying this holistic concept through each design attribute, our solutions serve as a nudge for people to discover and enact upon their Soul’s desires.
